Welcome to Ride Independent! We are a motorsports apparel company that draws inspiration from Newfoundland and Labrador's rich history and vibrant outdoor lifestyle. We strive to provide stylish gear that not only reflects the rugged spirit of our homeland but also enhances your adventure on and off the track.
OUR STORY
“Independence” refers to when Newfoundland became a self-governing dominion in 1907. This meant it had control over its own government and internal affairs—much like how our brand was started.
In 2012, we set out to create a brand that encapsulated both Newfoundland heritage and the raw talent of many local motorsport enthusiasts. Pairing the social culture of riding with eye-catching photography, we embarked on an exhibition to display the beauty of Newfoundland and Labrador and the memories we were making with great friends.
The name that would marry Newfoundland culture and the riding scene came to me one day while waiting in line at a Tim Hortons drive-through. As I sat in silence, my mind danced between words that could describe the culture I wanted to create. I knew "Ride" was something I wanted to use, but what word could I pair it with to make a catchy name with deeper cultural meaning? “Independent”—that was it. Newfoundland Independence, and Ride Independent. A double entendre, meaning ride for yourself and ride Newfoundland. It was perfect.
Fast forward a couple of short years, and suddenly we had over 15,000 followers across various social media platforms. The local support for us was humbling. I started seeing the name Ride Independent plastered on what seemed like every second car and truck. Many people bought clothing, stickers, and other items to show their support and belief in the brand
Which brings us to 2025. Half a decade passed with relative silence on all our social media platforms. Life had taken us on different paths, and focusing on the brand became secondary to establishing a stable lifestyle. Many friends and family asked what happened to Ride Independent, and the answer was always, "Someday I’ll bring it back..."
So, here we are. Back and better than ever. With a newfound love for our home province and an insistent itch to get things up and running again, we are proud to announce the re-launch of Ride Independent. With a fresh new website and apparel, we can't say enough thank-yous for the love and support we’ve received in recent weeks.
